The Red Guitars
Hal, John, Matt, Lou and Jerry.

The Red Guitars were a product of the vibrant music scene which existed in Hull in the late 1970's and early 80's. Encouraged by good reviews of their demo tape in the national music press the band decided to record and release a single, Good Technology, on their own Self Drive record label. The late, great John Peel played it on Radio One and, as a result, Tyne Tees Television filmed them for the Tube and Johnny Marr invited them to tour with the Smiths. They were up and running. This site is a celebration of the Red Guitars and the Hull music scene they were a part of. It covers only the initial independent phase of their career up until they signed for a major record label.

Good Technology (1982-1984)

There's a new compilation on Self Drive Records which includes the Slow To Fade album plus the early singles. You can get a copy from Onestop Natural Shop for £10.95 including postage and packing.

Slow To Fade  is a bit of a classic - quite a bit. And a grower, too, featuring songs with melodies, guitars, drums, bass and a singer who can sing.

...a suitcase full of freshly crafted tunes, intelligent thought-provoking lyrics and razor edged, always cutting sounds...nothing less than astounding.
